The Ancient Gatehouse and Rugantino Restaurant
At The Ancient Gatehouse, we aim to ensure that all our guests have comfortable facilities and are made to feel welcome. We have developed this access statement to address some of the more common issues that disabled people face.
The access statement is intended to provide additional information for all guests who wish to attend the hotel or use its facilities.
The Ancient Gate is a family owned, a 9 en suite bedroom hotel, with a restaurant and bar. We have a variation of bedrooms within the Hotel all of which are only accessible by stairs.

The nearest bus station is Wells Bus Station located approx. 5 minutes from the Hotel in Princes Road.
The nearest train station is Castle Cary approx. 12 miles from the Hotel.
There are many local taxis firms, of which we can provide you with details or book on your behalf if travelling from abroad

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
The front and back entrance has two steps leading into the Hotel
A ramp is available for both entrances on request
We offer assistance with luggage
We do not have parking facilities
Main Entrance & Reception
The front and back doors both lead to Reception, Restaurant and Bar
The floor is level and a mix of carpet & tiling
The Reception is on the Ground Floor, as is the Restaurant and Bar
There is a public lounge, which has one step leading up into it
Public Areas
Our corridors are well lit and carpeted
The Restaurant and Bar are assessable on two levels by going up one step
We do not have a lift or escalators to the first floor
There are WC's accessible by stairs only, each with one door for entry
The fire alarm system is bells and does not have flashing lights. Assistance will be given if evacuation necessary
Restaurant/Dining Room, Bar & Lounge

There are chairs with or without arms
Background Music in the Restaurant & Bar
Full waiter service provided
Well-lit and airy Restaurant & Bar
The lounge is made up of large single armchairs & sofas with low level, small coffee tables
Bedrooms
All 9 bedrooms are on different levels of flooring and accessible only by stairs
We do not have adapted bathrooms or grab rails
There is one room with a bath
The remaining 8 rooms have showers

As a 2 Star AA Quality Standard Hotel, we are committed to providing a high level of customer service. Whilst the physical limitations of the existing building may impose some constraints on facilities the Ancient Gatehouse are able to offer, we fully intend to comply with current regulations and good practice.
The nature of the building means it is impossible to make access to any of the bedrooms accessible without stairs.
The Ancient gatehouse Hotel aims to ensure that all employees, guests and others who use or assist in the provision of our services, are treated equally and according to their needs. Staff training in disability awareness is undertaken as part of the on-going staff development programme, in compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
